8316
Series
8316 Series Valve
General Description
This series of pilot operated 8316 valves has spring return diaphragms with integral seats,
resilient discs, and stainless steel trim and hardware.
They are controlled through a special selection gasket which, by following the instructions on the gasket cover, allows a choice of internal or external piloting. They are ideally suited for actuator control systems.
The valves are available in three solenoid versions: standard, low power and intrinsically safe.

Applications
For emergency shutdown of a process control valve controlled by a typical 3 to 15 psi signal: locate the solenoid valve in the signal line, position the selection gasket for external piloting, and provide a suitable external pilot source of 15 to 150 psi. When the electric power is interrupted, or the auxiliary air falls below the proper auxiliary pressure, the solenoid valve will exhaust the signal air from the process valve actuator, shifting the process valve to its original position.
If used in the internal pilot mode, in the event of loss of electrical power, the valve shifts to its original position.

Specifications
Standard Enclosures:
Standard & Low Power Valves: Molded epoxy, Types 1, 2, 3, 3S, 4 and 4X combination General Purpose and Watertight.

Intrinsically Safe (IS) Valves: Type 4 Watertight

Optional Enclosures:
Standard & Low Power Valves: Types 3, 3S, 4, 4X, 6, 6P, 7 and 9 combination Explosionproof and Watertight. To order, add prefix "EF" to catalog number.

Series 300 "IS" Valves:316 stainless stee Type 4 Watertight enclosure. To order, change prefix to "WS". Open Frame, change prefix to "U".

Electrical:
Standard Constructions: 24, 120, 240, 480 volts, AC, 60 Hz (or 110, 220 volts, AC, 50 Hz); 6, 12, 24, 120, 240 volts, DC

Low Power Constructions: 12 and 24 volts DC.

"IS" Constructions: 24 volts DC only. Minimum series resistance of 200 ohms is required in wiring circuit if a safety barrier is not used.

Nominal Ambient Temperature Ranges:
Standard Construction: AC Construction: -4°F to +125°F.
DC Construction: -4°F to +104°F

Low Power and "IS": -20°F to +140°F

Valve Parts in Contact with Fluids:
All Constructions:
Body -- Forged Brass
End Plate -- 304 s.s.
Seals and Discs -- low temperature Buna "N"

Standard Constructions:
Core Tube -- 305 s.s.
Core Guide -- Acetal
Shading Coil -- Copper (AC only)

"IS" and Low Power Constructions:
Sleeve -- 304L s.s.
Rider Rings -- PTFE
Spring Retainer -- Celcon

Improtant: For use on clean, dry air or inert gas filtered to 50 microns or better. Instrument air in compliance with ANSI/ISA standard S7.3-1975 (R1981) exceeds these requirements. To prevent freezing, dew point of the media should be at least 18°F below the minimum temperature to which any portion of the clean air or inert gas system could be exposed.

Approvals:
"IS" Valves: FM J.I.3 W848 AX (3610) CSA File LR-13976-116C. Solenoid Operator WPIS8003300.

Standard and Low Power valve with or without prefix "EF": UL approved and CSA certified under the General Purpose Valves Classification.

Installation:
All valve may be mounted in any position. Stainless steel mounting brackets are available. Add suffix "MB".

Ordering Information: Important: We must have catalog number, voltage and Hertz.

Notes: * - Consult factory for Normally Open and other forms of flow.
** - 0 minimum when valve selection gasket is in external position and proper auxiliary air pressure is applied. Minimum 15 psi operating pressure differential when selection gasket is in the internal position.

Important: Internal mode minimum operating pressure differential must be maintained between the pressure and exhaust ports. Supply and exhaust piping must be full area and unrestricted. ASCO flow controls and similar components must be installed only in the cylinder lines.
